Talent deserves clarity.
And so do you.

Talent across borders? We’ll help you do it right.

Whether you’re hiring international talent in the Netherlands or sending your own employees abroad, cross-border work brings valuable expertise into your business — and with it, tax complexity. Two key areas often come into play:

which offers tax benefits for foreign employees working in the Netherlands and their employer, and

which ensures a fair and compliant setup for employees on international assignments.

At Taxmanager, we help you navigate both. We assess eligibility, handle applications and correspondence with the Dutch Tax Authorities, and support you with payroll compliance, internal communication, and audits. Whether you're welcoming talent or sending it out into the world: we’ll make sure your tax setup works for everyone involved.

The Expat Scheme: a valuable benefit for employers hiring internationally
Have you hired, or are you planning to hire, an employee from abroad? The 30% Expat Scheme makes it possible to pay up to 30% of the gross salary tax-free as compensation for additional expenses linked to working temporarily in the Netherlands, such as housing, travel or dual living costs.

And it ensures a transparent, compliant tax setup for both you and your employees.

Airplane Above the Clouds

We bring clarity to complex tax matters, for people, across borders.

Basic conditions at a glance

To apply the Expat Scheme, the following conditions apply:

  • The employee was recruited from outside the Netherlands.

  • The employee has not lived or worked in the Netherlands for more than five years in the past 25 years.

  • The employee meets a minimum annual gross salary (excluding the 30% allowance).

  • The application must be submitted within 4 months of the employee’s start date to benefit fully from the scheme.

  • Other conditions or exceptions may apply — we’re happy to advise.

We ensure that you apply the Expat Scheme correctly, on time and in accordance with the applicable rules.

Our services include:

  • Eligibility assessment

Tax equalization: for employers sending staff abroad

Sending employees abroad? Tax equalization schemes help you manage the differences in tax systems between countries, so your employees remain tax neutral compared to their home situation.

Why this matters for your organisation

Tax equalization ensures that your employee keeps the same net income, regardless of differences in tax pressure between the home and host country. As an employer, you take responsibility for any additional tax costs resulting from the international assignment. Any resulting tax advantages may then be allocated to you as the employer.

How we support you

We provide end-to-end support in setting up and managing your tax equalization policy, including:

  • Reviewing and advising on your current policy

  • Calculating tax equalization payments

  • Drafting clear guidelines and communication for your employees

  • Supporting you during tax audits and liaising with tax authorities

With our expertise, you can count on a transparent, compliant solution that works for both your organization and your people.
